The other Bruins

Last month my sister and cousin and I went to Providence to watch the Boston Bruin’s AHL affiliate play.  The Providence Bruins have been the big Bruins’ minor league team since 1992.  Going to watch them play is always fun.  The Dunkin Donuts Center (aka “The Dunk”) is a great place to watch the games, Providence is actually a pretty fun city and the play itself is very good.  AHL games are different from the NHL but is just as (if not more) entertaining.

We went because we got a great deal on tickets.  That should be mentioned too – another great reason to go to Providence is the tickets are way cheaper than Boston Bruins tickets.  Anyway, we got a ticket and a voucher for a beer and hotdog for around $25.  It was a great time, even though the baby B’s got shut out.

Providence has had not had a great season this year.  They’ve had a couple good ones in the recent past, but the past two seasons they have seen a lot of their regulars called up to the big club.  Johnny Boychuk, Adam McQuaid, Brad Marchand, Tuukka Rask, Vladamir Sobotka (traded to the Blues), were all regulars on the big club the past few seasons after playing large roles in Providence.  In addition there’s been a revolving door of AHLers that have been called up for stints to Boston.
